El Bizcocho

Tucked inside the historic Rancho Bernardo Inn, El Bizcocho offers a dining experience that is exquisite, luxurious and refined. The décor is warm and inviting, while remaining stunningly elegant. The wine list is exceptional, with over 1,600 selections to choose from. And the cuisine is classically French, with a seasonal and artful menu put together by talented and ambitious Chef de Cuisine Gavin Kaysen. Dishes such as sous-vide Lamb Loin and Braised Kobe Short Ribs burst with succulence; for the adventurous, a daily, five-course Menu Degustation offers a true explosion of flavors.

The best Sunday brunch

This is a bit out-of-the-way for some people, but we think it's the best Sunday brunch in SD county!

Like Heaven

El Bizcocho is by far the greatest dining experience in all of San Diego, and in my book ranks right up there with the best restaurants in the country. The food is amazing, definitely worth the price. The service is like none other, the waiters are attentive and attractive, my favorite combination. The atmosphere is incredible, romantic but not too stuffy. Go on a Friday night and everyone from the host to the bussers are absolutely beautiful, and will treat you like royalty.

The best

We live in Arizona and frequently visit San Diego... El Bizcocho is simply world class and we will definetely return !

Good but not great

El Bizcocho is comfortable and relaxing restaurant with very good food. Typical small entrees. Service was very good. The Lamb loin was excellent. Barimundi fish so so. The one scallop appetizer is overpriced. Drinks pricey. They have a great Chef. BG

Quite Disappointed

My husband and I took my parents to El Bizcocho for their 60th wedding anniversary on a Saturday evening and we were all disppointed. Being from the NYC area, they are accustomed to "fine" dining as well as great dining for reasonable prices. For a fine dining experience, the atmosphere and the fantastic piano/base duo were the highlights. The food was good, portions very small (e.g.,5 regular size wild mushroom ravioli for one main course at $31) and well-presented but, we thought, not worth the price. When you pay a lot for a meal, you should expect immaculate service. This was not our experience at all. Our captain was scattered and inattentive and impatient with my parents. The waiters and bus service was better, but it seemed as though they had too many tables to serve. My parents were gracious about the experience, but we felt the experience was definitely lacking.
